SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE AND FUNCTION

The Veterinary Assistant supports veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing quality veterinary care for pets. They advocate for pets, educate clients on pet health, and ensure a safe, efficient hospital environment.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

1. Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.
2. Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians by acting as the extra eyes, ears, and hands to ensure high-quality pet care and maximize productivity. Communicate effectively with team members to maintain smooth patient flow.
3. Provide professional, efficient, and exceptional service at all times. Perform procedures that do not require veterinarian or technician assistance, prepare for other procedures, ensure client and pet comfort, and monitor hospitalized or surgical pets as permitted by state law.
4. Educate clients about Optimum Wellness Plans, preventive care, pet health needs, hospital services, and other relevant topics.
5. Obtain relevant information and medical history from clients and maintain accurate medical records.
6. Ensure safety for pets, clients, and staff by using proper restraint techniques, following protocols, and maintaining clean, sterile, and organized treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs.
7. Assist with surgical procedures as applicable.
8. Utilize technical skills to the fullest extent allowed by state practice acts and NAVTA guidelines for veterinary assistant duties.
9. Mentor other paraprofessionals within the hospital.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.
