Overview
Otay Pet Vets is seeking a full-time, experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team! The Veterinary Assistant will work directly with the technicians and veterinarians to perform routine exams and procedures. We're seeking an individual with a background in veterinary care and experience working with dogs and cats.
Compensation: $20-24/hr
Location: 2015 Birch Rd Ste 107, Chula Vista, CA 91915
Responsibilities:
- Gather, record, and document patient information.
- Communicate effectively with clients.
- Restrain friendly as well as scared and aggressive pets.
- Be caring and compassionate toward animals and their caretakers.
- Clean and sanitize the veterinary clinic.
- Adhere to CDC, OSHA, and other regulations.
- Apply sound judgment when dealing with animals, visitors, families, and co-workers.
- Demonstrate proper infection control measures.
- Work as part of a team.
- Administer vaccinations.
- Perform nail trims.

Job Summary:
The Veterinary Assistant supports the medical team in the operation of the animal facility in accordance with MVP policies. Provides medical care to patients as allowed by law.
How you'll make an impact:

- Assist in daily clinic duties.
- Participate in cleaning duties.
- Maintain excellent client communication.
- Record medical, client, and case information accurately.
- Review medical records and discharge instructions with clients.
- Answer phones courteously.
- Provide patient care under DVM supervision.
- Perform clinic upkeep and equipment maintenance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- At least 2 years of experience in a veterinary environment.
- Proficient in laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, surgery, dental, and nursing skills.
- Patience and composure in stressful situations.
- Ability to handle a fast-paced environment and medical crises.
- Strong reasoning, memory, math, and language skills.
- Confidence around pets.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical activities like standing, walking, kneeling, etc.
- Endurance for extended periods on hard surfaces.
- Ability to work in noisy conditions and handle pets that may bite or scratch.
- Sufficient vision and dexterity for duties and equipment operation.
