Job description

Veterinary Assistant – Vetopia

Location: Chattanooga, TN
Type: Full-Time

About Vetopia

Vetopia is a veterinary hospital built on empathy, trust, and a better way of doing business—for pets, their people, and the team that supports them. We combine smart systems, human-centered design, and team-first values to deliver exceptional care. This is your chance to help build something meaningful from the ground up.

Role Purpose

As a Veterinary Assistant at Vetopia, you'll support our medical team by keeping patients comfortable, assisting with treatments, and delivering outstanding experiences for pet owners. You'll also play a vital role in helping the hospital run smoothly—whether it's prepping rooms, monitoring patients, or communicating with clients.

Jobs to Be Done (JTBD)

When a patient needs to be examined, we need someone who can restrain safely, read animal body language, and help the clinical team stay focused.
→ You're calm, confident, and tuned in to animal needs.

When the schedule's full and things are moving fast, we need someone who keeps rooms stocked, spaces clean, and transitions smooth.
→ You anticipate what's needed and take pride in the little things that keep things flowing.

When a client walks in anxious—or unsure—we need someone who can greet them with warmth, take a clear history, and make them feel heard.
→ You know how to turn tension into trust with a single conversation.

When a teammate needs support, we need someone who steps in without being asked, works collaboratively, and makes the day easier for everyone.
→ You're a helper at heart and a natural team player.

When new challenges come up, we need someone who asks thoughtful questions, stays curious, and brings a growth mindset to the table.
→ You're eager to learn—and good at taking instructions.

What You'll Do
  • Collect patient histories and help prepare for exams
  • Assist with diagnostics, blood draws, and treatments (under supervision)
  • Monitor and maintain patient comfort, cleanliness, and safety
  • Set up and clean exam rooms and treatment areas
  • Communicate with clients respectfully and clearly
  • Learn and uphold Fear-Free handling protocols
  • Support inventory, cleaning, and daily hospital operations
  • Participate in staff development and growth conversations
What We're Looking For
  • Experience working with animals preferred (kennel tech, assistant, etc.)
  • Strong communication and people skills
  • Comfort and confidence around dogs and cats
  • A willingness to learn and grow into a technician role over time
  • Team-oriented and emotionally mature
  • Aligned with Vetopia's values of empathy, excellence, and continuous improvement
What You'll Get
  • Competitive pay based on experience
  • Medical benefits, PTO, and CE support
  • Fear-Free certification paid for
  • A growth path toward a veterinary technician career
  • A positive, collaborative, mission-driven workplace
Apply if You…
  • Want to work in a place where your voice and growth matter
  • Love helping animals and the people who care for them
  • Bring a can-do attitude and leave drama at the door
  • Are ready to learn, pitch in, and build something special with us
