Overview
Veterinary Assistants play an integral role in caring for patients, clients, and referring veterinarians at CVCA. They work directly with cardiologists to provide medical support, improve efficiency by handling technical tasks, record keeping, and communication. They also communicate with and educate clients about their pet's health.
Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate care to clients and patients.
- Follow all company policies and procedures.
- Assist the doctor by ensuring efficient appointment flow, emergency care, and accurate record keeping.
- Prepare and maintain exam rooms and treatment areas.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the facility.
- Perform physical history taking and blood pressure measurement on patients.
- Triaging patients as needed.
- Assist with surgical and interventional procedures.
- Monitor vital signs of anesthetized patients before, during, and after surgery.
- Administer oral medications.
- Restrain pets safely and compassionately, even large or difficult ones.
- Perform venipuncture, ensure proper blood sample handling, and record keeping.
- Position and take radiographs effectively.
- Perform electrocardiograms and handle Holter placements and removals.
- Prepare medications and prescriptions, ensuring proper labeling and documentation.
- Discharge patients and review post-care instructions with owners, ensuring they receive medications and prescriptions.
- Maintain accurate medical records and manage message boards and invoices.
- Troubleshoot office equipment and assist team members as needed.
- Assist in training new employees.
- Follow oral and written instructions accurately.
- Foster positive relationships within the team and with affiliated services.
- Communicate effectively with staff and clients.
- Arrive promptly for scheduled shifts.
- Handle client inquiries via phone, email, and fax, including scheduling and policy questions.
- Assist client service representatives as needed.
- Perform delegated tasks and additional responsibilities as assigned.
Responsibilities / Qualifications
Education/Experience/Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 18 years old.
- At least two years of experience as a veterinary assistant.
- Proficiency with MS Office, Google Drive, PDF tools, and basic computer skills.
