Job summary

Boothbay Animal Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our four-doctor small animal practice in Boothbay, Maine. The position offers a four-day work week with rotating Saturday shifts, and compensation is negotiable based on experience.

You will assist the veterinary team with patient care, triage, administer medications and vaccines, and help with in-house lab work. We value teamwork, patient-centered care, and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a veterinary assistant or technician preferred.
  • Strong client service and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of preventive care and basic veterinary procedures.
  • Excellent patient handling skills with low-stress techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the veterinary team with patient care throughout the day.
  • Triage patients and obtain medical histories, vital signs, and assessments.
  • Prepare and administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed.
  • Perform in-house laboratory testing (CBCs, chemistry, urinalysis, cytology).
  • Educate clients about preventive care and treatment plans.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and patient documentation.
  • Assist with patient restraint using safe handling techniques.
  • Collaborate with teammates to maintain efficient workflow and care.

What Our Veterinary Assistants Do
  • Assist the veterinary team with patient care throughout the day
  • Triage patients and obtain medical histories, vital signs, and patient assessments
