We are looking for a Veterinary Assistant to work in the following departments:

  • Oncology
  • Internal Medicine
  • ER/ICU

($1.50 shift differential pay in addition to regular hourly pay when working hours between 7pm to 7am)

What You'll Do:

  • Foster a culture built on our values: Respect, Learning, Do the Right Thing, WOW Service, and Fun.
  • Clean, disinfect, and prepare exam rooms, medical equipment, and surgery areas between appointments.
  • Obtain initial patient information, medical histories, vaccination records, and the reason for the pet's visit. Document patient information and update records.
  • Calm, soothe, comfort, and restrain pets before, during, and after procedures.
  • Take notes on examination results and update records as directed by veterinarians.
  • Provide owners with education, resources, and information on pet care, following the veterinarian’s guidance for specific conditions and post-procedure care.
  • Monitor and track pets' physical status and vital signs following surgery.
  • Monitor, record, and report the physical condition and vital signs of hospitalized and boarded pets.
  • Clean and disinfect cages, pens, runs, and boarding areas.
  • Feed, water, bathe, and exercise pets during their visit.
  • Respond to general questions from clients.
  • Perform procedures that do not require veterinarian or veterinary technician assistance.
  • Examine pets, perform basic health checks, look for signs of disease, illness, or injury, and treat under veterinarian supervision.
  • May administer certain medications, perform routine lab tests, fill prescriptions, and educate clients on medication use and side effects under veterinarian direction.
  • Provide professional, efficient, quality care and exceptional service to clients while maintaining productivity.
  • Support a collaborative, team-oriented environment that ensures high-quality, compassionate, effective pet healthcare.
  • Comply with all practice policies, quality assurance guidelines, and standards of care.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Broad knowledge of animal science.
  • Basic pharmacology knowledge.
  • Proficiency with computer programs like Microsoft Outlook, Word, and industry internet sites.
  • Effective communication skills—written, verbal, and active listening—with a customer-oriented approach.
  • Basic mathematical skills for accurate medication and fluid dosing.
  • Analytical, critical thinking, judgment, and problem-solving skills.
  • Compassion and empathy for pets and owners.
  • Ability to interact professionally and tactfully with clients and staff.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, including managing multiple priorities.
  • Discretion in handling sensitive/confidential information.
  • Ability to maintain a calm demeanor in a fluctuating, fast-paced, and stressful environment.

Education: High School Diploma or GED required

Professional Licenses/Certifications: Certificate of completion from a NAVTA-approved Veterinary Assistant program preferred. Medication Clerk Certification or willingness to become certified preferred.

Experience: Veterinary assistant: 5 years (Required)

Schedule:

  • Four 10-hour weekday shifts if working as Surgery Assistant with alternating after-hours/weekend on-call (with compensation)
  • 12-hour shift from 7am to 7pm if working in ER/ICU

Relocation: Reliable commute or planning to relocate to Bellevue, WA 98005, before starting work (Required)
