Job summary

Bedford Veterinary Medical Center is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our dedicated team. You will support veterinarians and technicians in delivering high-quality care to a variety of patients, with duties ranging from clinical tasks to client communication.

The role requires a minimum of 2 years of experience, strong restraint and lab skills, and a focus on compassionate patient care. Weekend shifts may be required; we offer comprehensive benefits and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Veterinary Assistant.
• Confident in restraint, lab work, and assisting with procedures.
• Weekend availability (some shifts).
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Strong multitasking and attention to detail.
• Familiarity with preventative care, surgical support, and clinic flow.
• Bonus: proficiency in lab processing, radiographs, and anesthesia monitoring.

Responsibilities

Job Description

About the Role:

As an Experienced Veterinary Assistant, you’ll be a vital part of our medical team, supporting veterinarians and technicians in delivering top-quality care to patients with a wide range of needs. Your day will include a mix of clinical tasks, client communication, and patient handling.

Primary responsibilities include:

• Safely and effectively restraining pets using low-stress techniques

• Triage and intake of incoming patients

• Collecting and processing lab samples (blood, urine, fecal, etc.)

• Assisting with radiographs and diagnostic imaging

• Administering medications and monitoring patients

• Supporting nursing care for hospitalized and medical cases

• Preparing patients and instruments for surgery; assisting in procedures

• Monitoring patients under anesthesia

• Communicating treatment plans and updates to clients with compassion and clarity

• Must be comfortable with exposure to strong odors, loud noises, animal waste, bites, scratches, and potentially contagious conditions

Qualifications
