Job summary

Westlake Animal Hospital in Austin, TX is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians, care for patients, and assist with exams, treatments, and surgeries.

The role offers growth through Thrive Pet Healthcare programs, including continuing education and leadership workshops. It is a full-time, on-site position with benefits.

Qualifications

  • 1+ year of animal handling experience.
  • Veterinary Assistant experience preferred.
  • Understand and embrace emotional intelligence.

Responsibilities

  • Support veterinarians and Vet Techs to ensure quality veterinary care.
  • With each hospital function, assist veterinarians and the medical team to maximize productivity and maintain positive patient flow.
  • Help Technicians with tech appointments
  • Collect Animals for treatments and assist technicians with laboratory tests
  • Assist with radiographs and ultrasounds
  • Walk, feed, water, and give medications to patients as directed by the DVM
  • Help set up surgery, sterilize surgical equipment, and help with recovery of patients
  • Assist in maintaining relevant, comprehensive medical records with the support of practice systems.
  • Use safe restraining techniques, follow standard protocols, and sustain clean, sterile, organized treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs.

About You

We need dependable, caring, hard-working, animal lovers to start asap. The Veterinary Technician Assistant Position involves all care of animals which includes assisting technicians, walking, feeding, medicating, surgery packs, anesthesia recovery, and monitoring. This position is also responsible for the general cleanliness of the hospital and kennel.

Experience & Skills Requirements
  • 1 + year of animal handling experience
