Job description

Austin, Texas, United States (This job is on-site)

Scismic is supporting a visionary biotechnology company that's anything but typical. They genetically engineer animals. They're combining rigorous science with a rebellious spirit, and we’re looking for a Veterinarian who gets that!

The Role:

They’re seeking a veterinarian with experience in small animals (especially rabbits, cats, dogs) but willing to learn and work on a variety of animals. You will oversee the health, welfare, and procedural aspects of our animal work. You will help them develop new techniques and even perform minor surgeries. This isn’t just a compliance gig. You’ll be working alongside scientists at the edge of genetic engineering, helping us ensure that the animals in our care are not only healthy but thriving.

What You’ll Do:

  • Oversee animal health and welfare for company's genetically engineered rabbits and control lines
  • Provide veterinary guidance for surgical procedures, embryo transfers, anesthesia, post-op recovery, and husbandry protocols
  • Collaborate with our scientific team to refine protocols that balance welfare and experimental design
  • Help us navigate regulatory and ethical frameworks (yes, we do things differently, but we still do them right)
  • Support animal model development through technical expertise and critical thinking

Who You Are:

  • DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) with active Texas license (or ability to obtain)
  • Experience with small mammals
  • Experience with surgery
  • Familiarity with IACUC and AAALAC standards (or at least a willingness to learn and push back intelligently)
  • Not afraid of a little chaos, a little weirdness, and a whole lot of ambition
  • Someone who cares deeply about animal welfare and the radical future of biotech

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience with embryo transfer or assisted reproduction
  • Background in lab animal medicine or comparative pathology

Why Join Us?

Because you want to be part of something that actually matters. You’re tired of safe, incremental science. You want to build the future, challenge the norms, and take real risks—while taking impeccable care of the animals that make it all possible.
