Job summary

HMR Veterans Services is seeking a Certified Medication Aide to join our team at Ussery-Roan Texas State Veterans Home in Amarillo, TX. You will administer prescribed medications to residents, follow nursing standards, and collaborate with nursing, physicians and pharmacists.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Licensed CMA with state-approved training and examinations.
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
• Knowledge to provide care for age-related needs.
• Ability to make independent decisions when warranted.
• Tactful with staff, residents, families and public.
• Knowledge of pharmaceutical systems and related software.
• Patient, cheerful, enthusiastic and trustworthy.

Responsibilities

• Assist in administering medications as ordered by physician.
• Report errors in medication administration and participate in QA activities.
• Maintain good working relationships with nursing, physicians and pharmacists.
• Participate in committees and improve medication processes.
• Prepare, administer and document medications per physician orders.
• Verify medications brought by new residents with the physician/pharmacy.
• Label medications correctly and document medication charts.
• Follow facility policies for medication storage and disposal.
• Document and remove discontinued medications as needed.
• Record vitals and monitor resident responses to meds.
