Job summary

FCC Behavioral Health in Poplar Bluff, MO seeks a Certified Peer Specialist to support veterans in their recovery from behavioral health disorders. You will share lived experience, model resilience, and help veterans build connections to peers and community.

You will provide recovery tools, encourage self-determination, and follow ethics and evidence-based practices. You will work under supervision of a qualified mental health professional and help veterans develop recovery goals.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Applicable training and testing as required by the Department of Mental Health; supervised by a qualified mental health professional.
• Veteran status required: applicants must be military veterans as required by the grant funding.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterans in their recovery.
• Support, encourage, and model recovery and resilience from behavioral health disorders in ways that meet each individual’s needs.
• Provide interventions such as sharing lived experiences of recovery and supporting the use of recovery tools.
• Help veterans recognize their capacity for resilience.
• Help veterans connect with other peers and their broader community.
• Help veterans develop a network for information and support.
• Assist veterans in making independent choices and taking an active role in treatment.
• Help veterans identify their strengths and goals.
• Teach and model symptom management and problem-solving skills.
• Follow the Certified Peer Specialist Code of Ethics.
• Adherence to all applicable evidence-based practice models.
• Orally communicate information effectively and accurately.
