Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Applicable training and testing as required by the Department of Mental Health; be supervised by a qualified mental health professional as defined in the Code of State Regulations.
• Veteran status required: Applicants for the Peer Specialist Veteran Navigator position must be military veterans, as required by the grant funding.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterans in their recovery.
• Support, encourage, and model recovery and resilience from behavioral health disorders in ways that meet each individual’s needs.
• Provide interventions such as sharing lived experiences of recovery and supporting the use of recovery tools.
• Help veterans recognize their capacity for resilience.
• Help veterans connect with other peers and their broader community.
• Help veterans develop a network for information and support.
• Assist veterans in making independent choices and taking an active role in treatment.
• Help veterans identify their strengths and goals.
• Teach and model symptom management and problem-solving skills.
• Use the stages of recovery to promote self-determination.
• Follow the Certified Peer Specialist Code of Ethics.
• Adherence to all applicable evidence-based practice models.
• Orally communicate information effectively and accurately.
• Assure program operates within the constraints of the agency’s certification (CARF, DMH) standards and strategic plan related to clinical care.
• Abide by program and agency policies and procedures.
• Other job duties and special projects as assigned.
