Job summary

Dallas County seeks a County Veterans Service Officer to assist eligible veterans, spouses, and dependents with rights and benefits under federal and state law. You will provide legal and medical research support, prepare documentation for VA claims, and help with appeals before the VA Board of Veterans Appeals.

Qualifications

• Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Social Services or related field.
• One year of work-related experience required.
• Ability to handle sensitive information per privacy regulations (HIPAA, Privacy Act).

Responsibilities

• Provide counseling on VA benefits and prepare claim materials.
• Gather and verify medical, financial, and other records for claims.
• Assist in filing appeals before the Board of Veterans Appeals.
• Coordinate with doctors, facilities, and agencies to obtain evidence.
• Assist in outreach and information sessions for Veterans and dependents.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
