Job summary

County of Santa Clara is seeking an incumbent to assist Veterans, their dependents, and surviving spouses in navigating Federal, State, and local benefits. The role requires knowledge of VA programs, regulatory changes, and strong case management skills.

Duties include advising clients, coordinating with agencies, preparing claims and appeals, and conducting outreach to inform Veterans about available services.

Qualifications

  • Two years of full-time experience determining eligibility for veterans’ benefits, directly working with the veteran population, and/or in the military.
  • Possession of a United States Department of Veterans Affairs accreditation via CDVA exam pursuant to Title 38 CFR 14.629 at time of appointment.
  • Substitution: Thirty semester units (forty-five quarter units) may substitute for one year of experience; accreditation cannot be substituted.

Responsibilities

  • Interview Veterans, dependents, and surviving spouses to determine benefits eligibility and explain available programs.
  • Advise clients on Federal, State, and local laws and regulations affecting benefits and research regulatory changes.
  • Coordinate with Veterans and agencies to obtain assistance and file claims.
  • Correspond with VA and other agencies regarding claims, benefits, and related programs.
  • Assist with preparation and submission of claims and appeals when justified.
  • Maintain case records and conduct administrative case management.
