Job summary

Triangle Veterinary Referral Hospital (TVRH) in Durham, NC is seeking experienced Registered Veterinary Technicians to join our Emergency and ICU teams. This fast-paced specialty hospital offers 24-hour emergency care and a collaborative environment where patient care and teamwork are valued.

As an ER/ICU RVT, you will provide hands-on nursing care to emergency and hospitalized patients, work closely with clinicians and support staff, and handle a diverse caseload.

Qualifications

• NC RVT license or eligible for NC registration.
• 2+ years of veterinary assistant or technician experience in a fast-paced veterinary hospital.
• Emergency or critical care experience preferred.
• High school diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient stability and obtain vital signs.
• Perform diagnostics and treatments for emergency and hospitalized patients.
• Complete hourly patient assessments and monitoring.
• Recognize and communicate changes in patient status.
• Place peripheral and central catheters.
• Restrain and position patients for examinations and treatments.
• Set up and administer IV and SQ fluids.
• Maintain urinary catheters.
• Perform bandage application and removal.
• Perform suture and drain removal.
• Calculate injectable medication dosages and CRIs.
• Administer IV, IM, SQ, oral, and ophthalmic medications.
• Maintain appropriate isolation protocols for infectious patients.
• Perform basic wound cleaning and care.
• Administer injectable and inhalant anesthesia.
• Monitor anesthetized patients and maintain accurate monitoring records.
• Provide patient monitoring throughout anesthesia recovery.
• Obtain samples and perform in-house laboratory testing.
• Assist with CPR and emergency procedures.

Your Role

Our ER and ICU RVTs provide hands‑on nursing care to emergency patients and hospitalized patients with acute and chronic illnesses. You'll work closely with Emergency Clinicians, Veterinary Assistants, and Patient Care Assistants to provide comprehensive care throughout each shift.

Required Education & Experience

• Current NC RVT license or eligible for registration in North Carolina
• 2+ years of veterinary assistant or technician experience in a fast-paced veterinary hospital
• Specialty, emergency, or critical care experience preferred
