Job summary

Triangle Veterinary Referral Hospital is seeking an Emergency and ICU Registered Veterinary Technician to join our ER/ICU teams in Durham, NC. This full-time role offers a fast-paced environment where you will provide high-quality patient care during emergencies.

As an RVT, you will triage patients, monitor vital signs, assist with diagnostics, anesthesia, and critical care, while collaborating with clinicians and support staff to deliver exceptional veterinary medicine around the clock.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• RVT licensed or eligible in NC.
• Minimum 2 years as veterinary assistant or technician in a fast-paced hospital; emergency experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Triage incoming emergency patients.
• Monitor vital signs and assess patient stability.
• Perform diagnostics and treatments for emergency and hospitalized patients.
• Assist in anesthesia and critical care procedures.
• Maintain isolation protocols and infection control.

Triangle Veterinary Referral Hospital (TVRH) provides 24-hour emergency service and specialty referrals in surgery, internal medicine, cardiology, oncology, neurology, radiology and rehabilitation. Our new facilities offer the latest diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities including digital radiography, ultrasonography, CT, MRI, endoscopy, laparoscopy, and in-house laboratory services.

About The Job

ER and ICU RVTs provide critical care to patients in emergency situations and those with acute or chronic illnesses that require hospitalization. They work closely with Emergency Clinicians, ER/ICU Veterinary Assistants and Patient Care Assistants. ER and ICU RVTs can expect to:

• Triage incoming patients presenting on emergency
• Assess patient stability and obtain patient vital signs
• Perform diagnostics and treatments of emergency and hospitalized patients
• Perform hourly patient assessment and monitoringObserve patients and recognize changes in status
• Place peripheral and central catheters
• Restrain patients for exams and treatments
• Participate in nurse rounds
• Set up and administer IV and SQ fluids
• Maintain urinary catheters
• Bandage removal and application
• Perform suture and drain removal
• Perform drug dose calculations for injectable medications and CRIs
• Administer injectable medications (IV, IM, SQ)
• Administer other medications (PO, OU, OD)
• Maintain isolation protocols for infectious patients
• Basic wound cleaning and care
• Administer injectable and inhalant anesthesia
• Monitor patients while under anesthesia and maintain a monitoring log
• Monitor patients during recovery from anesthesia
• Obtain samples for and perform in house laboratory testing
• Assist in CPR

Required Education And Experience

• Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
• RVT licensed or eligible in NC
• 2+ years as veterinary assistant or technician in a fast-paced veterinary hospital; specialty or emergency experience preferred
