Job summary

The McConnell Group, Inc. is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician to support the Small Animal Internal Medicine service in Tuskegee, Alabama. You will provide direct patient care and advanced clinical support in a teaching hospital setting, working with faculty veterinarians, interns, students, hospitalized patients, and clients.

This role emphasizes teamwork, clinical learning, mentorship, and careful coordination of complex medical cases in a university-affiliated environment.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited veterinary technology program or equivalent.
• Current Alabama veterinary technician license or eligibility.
• Minimum one year of veterinary practice or academic tech experience.
• Strong organizational, communication, and record-keeping skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with veterinarians and students.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily nursing care, safe handling, restraint, observation, and monitoring of small animal patients.
• Assist veterinarians with procedures including exams, anesthesia monitoring, pain management, CPR, and specialty techniques.
• Support students and interns with medication delivery, IV catheters, fluid therapy, bandaging, and patient monitoring.
• Coordinate patient schedules, maintain accurate medical records, and monitor inventory and supplies.
• Maintain internal medicine wards and equipment in a clean, safe, and service-ready condition.
• Report significant changes in patient status to the veterinary team and participate in rounds.
• Contribute to teaching and mentorship of veterinary students and rotating interns.
• Communicate discharge education and home-care instructions to clients as directed by the team.
• Adhere to hospital safety, infection-control, accreditation, and regulatory standards.
