Job summary

Parker Animal Care invites veterinary students to participate in a structured externship program designed to bridge classroom training with real-world clinical care. Externs will work under the supervision of mentor doctors, gaining exposure to the practice's caseload and procedures, while developing their diagnostic, surgical, and client-communication skills.

Typical rotations span two to eight weeks with varied daily schedules, including days, evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• Be enrolled in an accredited DVM program.
• Be authorized to work in the United States.
• Carry professional liability insurance; AVMA PLIT liability insurance is free for student members; submit certificate of coverage with application.

Responsibilities

• Externs experience the typical caseload of a small animal practice under supervision.
• Gaining histories, performing physical examinations, and developing diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
• Scrub in to surgery and assist in managing medical cases and wellness care.
• Develop client communication skills and produce SOAP notes within daily practice time limits.
