Job summary

National Veterinary Associates (NVA) offers veterinary externships designed to immerse students in the day-to-day operations of a veterinary hospital. Externs work closely with supervising veterinarians to gain hands-on clinical experience, from history taking and exams to treatment planning and diagnostics.

Externships typically run two to eight weeks, with eligible clinical students receiving a travel/living expense stipend.

Qualifications

• Student externs in the clinical portion are eligible to participate in NVA externships.
• Two to eight weeks externship duration depending on schedules.
• Externs gain hands-on experience under supervision and develop client communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Gather patient histories and perform physical exams.
• Create and discuss treatment plans with supervising veterinarian.
• Perform or observe diagnostic, dentistry, and surgical procedures as appropriate.
• Support medical management of patients and communicate with the medical team and clients.
