Job summary

University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign seeks an Academic Hourly staff member for the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory within the College of Veterinary Medicine. The role supports clinical diagnostic and research activities, including specimen accessioning and processing, under supervision of senior staff and pathologists.

The position emphasizes accuracy, safe handling of biological materials, and clear communication with stakeholders, with a start date as soon as possible after 10/2/2026.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Biology or a related field.
  • Preferred: Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science or closely related field.
  • 4+ months of laboratory experience (research or diagnostic).
  • 4+ months customer service experience.

Responsibilities

  • Retrieve and accession specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Preparation & processing of biological specimens for analysis and/or pathologist review.
  • Perform duties according to laboratory standards to maintain accreditation by the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD).
  • Clearly and amicably communicate with laboratory staff, clinical pathologists, and clients (veterinary clinicians, professional students, and biomedical investigators).
  • Coordinate research services for biomedical investigations.
  • Support and participate in quality assurance and laboratory standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
