Job summary

Banfield Pet Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians, educate clients on pet health, and help maintain a safe hospital environment. You will assist with procedures, monitor hospitalized or surgical pets, and reinforce the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. in daily duties.

Ideal candidates will advocate for pets, obtain patient histories, and mentor other paraprofessionals while upholding high standards of care and teamwork in a busy clinical setting.

Qualifications

• NAVTA guidelines for veterinary assistant skills and duties.
• Follow state practice acts when assisting in procedures.
• Ensure medical quality and patient safety during care.

Responsibilities

• Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.
• Act as the extra eyes, ears and hands for the veterinarian and veterinary technician to maximize productivity.
• Provide professional, efficient and exceptional service at all times, including prep work and patient comfort.
• Educate clients about wellness plans, preventive care and hospital services.
• Obtain history from clients and maintain complete medical charts.
• Ensure safety of pets, clients and staff by following protocols and maintaining clean areas.
• Assist with surgery as applicable.
• Utilize NAVTA guidelines for veterinary assistant duties.
• Mentor other paraprofessionals in the hospital.
• Other duties as assigned.
