Job summary

Paw Springs Veterinary Hospital in Wilmington, NC is seeking a veterinary technician assistant to support the veterinary team. You will assist in restraining pets, set up tests, and help the technicians and veterinarian during exams and treatments.

You will help educate pet owners on general health care, maintain accurate medical records, and keep exam rooms and equipment clean and organized. Physical duties include lifting up to 40 lbs and standing most of the shift.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years of animal care or veterinary support experience preferred.
• Knowledge of veterinary terminology and animal handling.
• Ability to multitask with integrity and accountability.
• Collaborative with strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist Veterinarian or Credentialed Veterinary Technician during exams and treatments.

Description

Position Overview:

The veterinary technician assistant is the veterinary technician’s primary support. They assist in restraining pets and test set up for the examination procedure. They aid the technicians in achieving greater efficiency by relieving them of some of the routine work. They have a very significant role in freeing up the technicians to assist the veterinarian with medical procedures.

Essential functions and responsibilities:

Assist the Veterinarian or Credentialed Veterinary Technician during exams and treatments .

Safely handle and restrain pets during exams; monitor the pet’s behavior and well-being, addressing any issues promptly and safely.

Build strong relationships with pet parents to foster a supportive and trusting environment.

Educate pet owners on general health care and preventative measures as advised by Veterinarian .

Ensure complete and accurate medical records complying with state , federal , and industry regulations.

Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of work environment such as exam room(s) and client waiting areas .

Ensure all medical equipment and supplies are properly cleaned , sterilized , and organized .

Perform other clerical and administrative duties as needed

Education & Certifications:

1-2 years of animal care and handling experience; related veterinary care experience preferred

Knowledge of veterinary medical terminology, procedures , and animal handling techniques .

Stand and/or walk for up to 6 hours without a break.

Kneel, bend, squat, and twist their body.

Repetitive hand and arm movement; reach, grab, pull, and push objects.

Perform duties in an environment with loud sounds from animals and smells from pet waste and cleaning chemicals.

Perform work both indoors and outdoors; experiencing temperature changes according to season, building heating and cooling, and weather.

Lift up to 50lbs with or without assistance .
