Job summary

Petrosmith-Equipment is seeking experienced Vessel and Piping Welders for our Abilene fabrication shop. You will interpret drawings, weld carbon steel, and fit flanges and shells to meet precise tolerances for oilfield vessels. Must pass 6G or 3G tests and lift components up to 50 pounds.

A strong emphasis on safety, quality, and teamwork is required. Benefits and full-time employment are offered in a structured shop environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience in vessel fabrication shop or similar production environment.
  • Ability to read blueprints and interpret welding specifications.
  • Capable of passing 6G or 3G welding test and maintaining quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret drawings and specs for welding work.
  • Weld carbon steel components using approved procedures.
  • Fit-up flanges and shell components per requirements.
  • Lay out nozzles and sub-assemblies; verify tolerances.
  • Operate cutting/grinding tools and portable equipment as needed.
  • Move parts safely using cranes or rigging devices.
  • Follow shop procedures and safety rules.
  • Collaborate with team to complete jobs on time.

Job description

Petrosmith a leading provider of production equipment for the oil and gas industry is currently looking for experienced Vessel and Piping Welders to join our team. Our Fabrication Shop specializes in Vessels used in the Oilfield Industry. Welders will be responsible for welding pressure vessels experience is required must be able to pass a 6G or 3G weld test.

Responsibilities:
  • Interprets drawings and specifications
  • Welds carbon steel and components using weld procedures
  • Fit-up ANSI flanges to pipe, forged flanges to shells and profile nozzles to match required shell.
  • Lay-out nozzles and other sub assembly location in shell components
  • Burns and grinds nozzle cutouts in shell to meet engineering tolerances
  • Uses flame cutting torch, carbon arc gouging, plasma arc, portable grinders and other tools.
  • Uses overhead cranes, jib cranes and other lifting/ rigging devices to move components in a safe manner.
  • Completing jobs based on standard shop procedures
  • Conforms to shop quality practices and procedures
  • Conforms to safety requirements of the shop
  • Works productively with others to help determine best solutions
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Proficient in basic math including addition/ subtraction of whole numbers, fractions and decimals
  • Proficient in reading a tape measure/ rulers in increments of 1/16”
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Ability to understand manufacturing sequence in a vessel fabrication shop
  • Ability to use various welding, grinding and fitting tools
  • Ability to follow shop procedures, quality procedures and safety practices.
  • Ability to pass 6G or 3G welding test
  • Requires pressure vessel shop fabrication experience
  • Ability to lift materials job components up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to arrive to work on time
