Job summary

American Commercial Barge Line is seeking a Vessel Tankerman to join our team in Harahan, LA. You will perform cargo transfer operations, follow safety and inspection protocols, and work with vessel crews to ensure efficient transfers while maintaining environmental protection standards.

Applicants must hold a valid USCG Tankerman-PIC endorsement, TWIC, and be able to read and write detailed transfer documents; readiness to work varied schedules and in diverse weather is required.

Qualifications

• Valid and current MMD Tankerman-PIC (Barge) Dangerous Liquids endorsement through USCG.
• Must complete yearly benzene physical and respirator fit test; respirator fit required.
• Must be able to read and write to complete Declaration of Inspection and other required documents.
• Must read, speak and understand English as required by USCG CFR.
• Must perform barge inspections, audits and repairs when not transferring.
• Must operate PHD lite four-stage gas meters (maintenance, calibration, operation, reading).
• Must possess and maintain an active TWIC.
• Must use safety equipment per ACBL policies (ear/eye protection, gloves, life jackets, boots).
• Excellent knowledge of safety procedures and regulations for liquid cargo transfer.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work in varied weather and flexible schedule.

Responsibilities

• Perform cargo transfer operations safely and efficiently.
• Follow pre-transfer inspection and Declare of Inspection procedures.
• Enforce safety protocols to protect personnel, equipment and environment.
• Operate and maintain transfer equipment, hoses, pumps and valves.
• Maintain records of cargo transfer quantities, quality and incidents.
• Coordinate with vessel crew, shore staff and terminal operators.
• Respond to emergencies and follow procedures to mitigate risks.
• Implement environmental protection measures to prevent spills.
