Job summary

American Commercial Barge Line LLC in Baton Rouge, LA seeks a Shore Tankerman to safely transfer liquid cargo between shore facilities and vessels. You will operate and maintain transfer gear, follow safety protocols, and coordinate with ship and shore teams to ensure smooth operations.

This role requires rigorous safety discipline and readiness for on-call shifts. Candidates must hold Tankerman PIC, TWIC, pass benzene physicals, and demonstrate strong English communication and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Must hold valid Tankerman PIC certification for barges carrying dangerous liquids (USCG).
• Must complete yearly benzene physical and respirator fit testing; respirator fit required at all times.
• Ability to read and write to complete Inspection Declaration and other docs.
• English language proficiency as required by USCG CFR.
• Barge inspections, audits and repairs when not transferring cargo.
• Operate PHD lite four-stage gas meters; maintenance and calibration.
• Active TWIC card and compliance with safety gear usage.
• Strong knowledge of safety procedures for liquid cargo transfer.

Responsibilities

• Perform cargo transfer operations safely between vessels and shore tanks.
• Enforce safety protocols to protect personnel, equipment, and environment.
• Operate and maintain transfer equipment, hoses, pumps, and valves.
• Record cargo transfer data including quantity, quality, and incidents.
• Coordinate with vessel crew and terminal staff to ensure smooth operations.
• Respond to emergencies and follow procedures to mitigate risks.
• Implement environmental protection measures to prevent spills.
• Follow pre-transfer inspections and DoI declarations; perform pre-transfer conference.
• Conduct minor repairs to barge equipment.
