Job summary

Vertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated invites motivated students to join our Packaging Co-Op in Boston for Jan–June 2027. This 40-hour-per-week, paid co‑op offers hands‑on experience in packaging engineering with real project work and cross‑functional collaboration.

As an intern or co‑op, you will support plans, data collection, tool development, and process improvements in our Tech Ops Packaging group while benefiting from mentorship, networking, and a strong focus on work‑life balance.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in undergraduate or graduate program in Packaging Sciences or Packaging Engineering, or related field
• Strong written communication skills
• Experience with MS Office applications (Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
• Planning and organizational skills
• Legal authorization to work in the United States; sponsorship not provided for internships/co-ops
• Must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before June 2027
• Available to work full-time, 40 hours per week from January - June 2027

Your Impact

The Vertex Technical Operations - Packaging Co-Op program is a 6-month experiential training program for students currently working towards an undergraduate or advanced degree in Packaging Engineering, Packaging Sciences, or other related fields. If you are passionate, collaborative, and growth-minded, a co-op at Vertex will help you gain meaningful experience in our Technical Operations functional areas and serve as a launchpad for your career.

What you will be doing:

The Tech Ops Packaging group supports the development (pre‑filing development work and filing documentation), launch (creation and validation of production processes), and long‑term maintenance of all packaging related activities, including support in selection of appropriate Contract Manufacturing Organizations to fulfill packaging related business needs.

Potential duties will include:

• Assisting in the preparation of plans, designs, methods of data collection, and reports.
• Creating materials and tools to support upcoming and ongoing process improvement initiatives, specifically the development of a project intake tool, including expected timelines for each task, to aide cross functional partners that require support from the packaging group.
• Conducting process mapping working sessions on business and technical processes to support the creation of the project intake tool.
• Testing of primary and secondary packaging components in support of various product launches in 2024, including drafting reports for review.
• Meet virtually with existing Contract Manufacturers and Material Suppliers.

What you will need to succeed:

• Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Packaging Sciences or Packaging Engineering, or another related field
• Interests in pursuing a career in pharmaceutical packaging.
• Preferred experience with CAD software (Artios, Solid Work, etc)
• Strong written communication skills
• Experience with MS Office applications (Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, Word etc.)
• Planning and organizational skills
• Legal authorization to work in the United States, now and in the future. Please note that Vertex does not provide sponsorship for internships/co‑ops or entry level roles within this part of the organization.
