Job summary

Vertex invites motivated students to join the Mechanical Automation Co-Op for 6 months in Boston or Providence. You will engage with a cross-disciplinary team on automation projects that enhance manufacturing reliability and scale life-saving therapies.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in undergrad/grad program in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.

• Must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before June 2027.
• Available to work full-time, 40 hours per week from January to June 2027.

Responsibilities

• Work with Automating Machinery & Processes team to streamline manufacturing and improve reliability.
• Contribute to design processes of mechanisms, robotics, IMRs, and automated equipment.
• Prepare Detailed Design Specifications including 3D models, drawings with GD&T, BOM, and manuals.

Your Impact

The Vertex Mechanical Automation Co-Op program is a 6-month experiential training program for students currently working towards an undergraduate or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or other related fields. If you are passionate, collaborative, and growth-minded, a co-op at Vertex will help you gain meaningful experience in our Automating Machinery & Processes functional areas and serve as a launchpad for your career.

What you will be doing:

In this co-op, you will be working with the Automating Machinery & Processes team to streamlining manufacturing, enhancing manufacturing reliability, and scaling life-saving therapies to reach patients faster. The Co-op will work with a passionate team of scientists, engineers, and innovators, all united by a shared mission: to push the boundaries of what's possible in Cell & Gene Therapy. The Co-op will contribute by designing or participating in the design process of mechanisms, robotics, IMRs, and automated equipment.

Key Deliverables at Project Completion:

• Detailed Design Specification for automated equipment, including, but not limited to:
  • 3D models
  • Detailed Drawings with GD&T
  • Bill of Materials
  • Manual
  • Maintenance Procedure
• Mechanical Technical Readiness Plan for Automated Equipment
• Equipment Layouts
• Facility and Utility Requirements for Automated Equipment
• FAT and SAT Reports
