Job summary

Vertex Exploratory Chemistry Co-Op is a 6-month experiential training program for students pursuing an advanced degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related fields. You will gain hands-on experience in PD Media Development, collaborate with chemistry and biology teams, and learn from industry leaders on meaningful projects.

The program is on-site in Boston, full-time and paid, offering $30.00 – $50.00 USD/hour, with the January–July 2027 schedule and the November 15, 2026 application

Qualifications

• Senior, Master’s, or PhD candidates welcome.
• Chemical Engineering or Chemistry degree required.
• LC-MS familiarity and solubility/stability testing experience desired.

What you will be doing:
The co-op will support factor kitting studies by evaluating the solubility and stability of chemical mixtures. Their primary project will support the collaborative effort between PD and PharmSci to establish an understanding of mixture storage, stability and chemical compatibility, with the goal of generating data that supports process development and future manufacturing readiness.

The co-op will gain hands-on experience, working with both chemistry and biology teams to prepare reagents, run experiments, analyze data, and support related cell culture studies. This is an opportunity to learn how small molecules are formulated and applied in biologically relevant systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• 1. Prepare and organize chemical reagents and mixtures to support T1D small molecule studies.
• 1. Support solubility and stability assessments for selected chemical mixtures under defined conditions in collaboration with PharmSci and AD.
• 1. Process and interpret LC-MS data to evaluate compound identity, integrity, and degradation profiles.
• 1. Document experimental methods, observations, and results in a clear and reproducible manner.
• 1. Summarize findings and provide recommendations to support optimization of factor kitting workflows for the T1D program.

Qualifications:
