Job summary

Teacher Tutors is seeking a part-time Middle School Tutor to support students in grades 6–8 across core subjects, homework, and study skills. Sessions occur in students’ homes or at our Livingston, NJ office and are in-person, not online.

Ideal candidates are current or former middle school teachers with the ability to travel within an agreed radius; familiarity with NJ curricula is a plus. Compensation ranges per hour with options for W-2 or 1099 employment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree; teaching certification strongly preferred.
• Middle school classroom teaching experience across multiple subjects.
• Comfort with math through pre-algebra, reading and writing, science and social studies.
• Strong communication skills and patience with students.
• Reliable transportation and willingness to drive for in-home sessions.

Responsibilities

• Deliver one-on-one tutoring sessions tailored to each student’s courses and goals.
• Support core subjects, homework, test prep, and long-term projects.
• Move between subjects within a session based on student priorities.
• Build study skills and habits (organization, time management, note-taking, test prep).
• Track progress and adjust pacing and materials as needed.
• Submit session notes and flag concerns to the Director.
• Communicate clearly and warmly with parents.
• Collaborate with the team to raise practice standards.
