Job summary

The City of Des Moines is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Specialist to manage a broad range of building trades, electrical and plumbing tasks, and HVAC systems. You will troubleshoot, repair, and maintain City buildings, working with a small crew and coordinating routine maintenance activities.

Ideal candidates have strong carpentry, electrical and mechanical skills, with experience operating commercial vehicles and working at heights.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; two-year college in building maintenance preferred.
• Four years of progressively responsible building maintenance/repair experience.
• Must possess valid Washington CDL Class A license upon hire.
• Ability to operate city vehicles and heavy equipment; work safely in varied settings.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate activities and maintenance of City buildings and related systems.
• Perform skilled trades: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC tasks.
• Install, troubleshoot and repair fixtures, systems and equipment; lead small crews.
• Maintain records, respond to urgent repairs, and support preventative maintenance.
