Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Fund Controller to oversee the financial operations of our growing venture capital firm. In this role, you will manage both fund accounting and corporate accounting, establish an efficient operational structure, and directly manage one accounting professional.

This is a high-visibility position reporting directly to the management team. The ideal candidate will regularly present financial insights to the Board of Directors and possesses a clear, performance-based growth trajectory to transition into the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) role as the firm expands.

Key Responsibilities

Fund Accounting & Operations

  • Capital Management: Oversee the end-to-end execution of capital calls, distributions, and investor subscription agreements.
  • Waterfalls & Allocations: Calculate complex distribution waterfalls, carried interest allocations, and hurdle rates in strict accordance with Limited Partnership Agreements (LPAs).
  • Valuations: Manage the quarterly portfolio valuation process under ASC 820 guidelines, collaborating with investment teams and third-party valuation experts.
  • Treasury Management: Authorize and manage all fund wires, cash movements, and banking relationships with rigorous internal controls.

Corporate Accounting & Personal Investments

  • Corporate Financials: Manage the general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and monthly closing processes for the management company and general partner entities.
  • Personal Investments: Oversee financial tracking, reporting, and accounting for the partners' personal co-investments and side-car vehicles.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and review the work of one direct report (Staff Accountant / Operations Specialist).

Strategic Scaling & Board Relations

  • Operational Excellence: Evaluate current financial workflows to design and implement a highly efficient, scalable operational structure (e.g., assessing and onboarding fund administrators or modern tech stacks).
  • Board Presentations: Prepare and present comprehensive quarterly financial packets, performance metrics, and operational updates directly to the Board of Directors.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience: 6–10 years of accounting experience, with at least 3–5 years specifically within Venture Capital (VC) or Private Equity (PE) fund accounting.
  • Education/Certifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CFA designation is highly preferred.
