Job summary

White Pass in Naches, WA seeks an experienced Vehicle Maintenance Technician to perform PMI, troubleshoot, and repair a fleet of vehicles, snowcats, and heavy equipment. You will lead repairs per established guidelines, ensure safety, and report to the Vehicle Maintenance Manager; requires valid WA license, 5–10 years experience or 3–6 with cert.

Qualifications

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • WA driver’s license valid.
  • 5–10 years vehicle maintenance experience or 3–6 years with automotive/diesel certificate (1000+ hours).
  • Advanced knowledge of hydraulics, electrical systems, engines, drive trains, and schematics.
  • Ability to read hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic schematics.
  • Ability to operate all fleet vehicles and work outdoors in all weather.

POSITION SUMMARY

Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), troubleshooting, and failure analysis on all White Pass vehicles, snowcats, and heavy equipment. Repairs and maintains the fleet in accordance with established vehicle maintenance guidelines and standards, ensuring maximum safe vehicle availability. This position reports directly to the Vehicle Maintenance Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform PMI and complete resulting repairs.
  • Troubleshoot, analyze, repair, design, modify, and complete failure analysis on fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform major welding and fabrication projects.
  • Repair and maintain vehicles, grooming equipment, and heavy equipment in accordance with established standards.
  • Train staff in the safe operation of equipment and equipment protocols.
  • Assist in daily shop operations, including supervising staff as needed.
  • Assist with ordering parts and maintaining inventory as requested.
  • Ensure timely maintenance and repair of all fleet vehicles, grooming machines, and heavy equipment.
  • Perform or assist with repairs on other equipment, including 4-wheelers, snowmachines, snow blowers, chainsaws, sanding units, and lawn mowers.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and ensure vehicles and equipment operate safely and reliably.
  • Complete work orders promptly, with accurate records of all work performed.
  • Attend weekly staff and safety meetings.
  • Manage assigned shop areas and maintain overall shop cleanliness and organization.
  • Provide friendly, helpful service to guests and coworkers at all time
  • Follow all resort policies and procedures, including those related to safety, conduct, and appearance.
  • Support other team members and departments when needed to help resort operations run smoothly.
  • Adapt to changing weather, guest volume, and shift priorities in a fast-paced environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school education or equivalent required.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License.
  • Five to ten years of experience in vehicle maintenance, or three to six years with a certificate of completion from an automotive/diesel technology program with a minimum of 1,000 clock hours.
  • Advanced knowledge of hydraulics, electrical systems, electrical-over-hydraulics, gas and diesel engines, computerized engine control systems, drive trains, chassis, body repair, welding, fuel systems, air systems, and schematic drawings.
  • Ability to read and interpret hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic schematics.
  • Ability to consult manuals, trade publications, vendors, staff schools, and training programs to stay current on shop practices and maintenance technologies.
  • Ability to operate all vehicles in the fleet to evaluate equipment performance and repairs.
  • Capable of running the shop in the absence of the Vehicle Maintenance Manager.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Strong communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
  • Reliable, punctual, and committed to the full seasonal schedule, including weekends and holidays.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and use hands to operate tools and equipment. The employee must be able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and occasionally more than 100 pounds. The employee must be able to operate hand and foot controls on vehicles. Specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. A functional capacity test may be required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is based primarily in vehicle and equipment maintenance facilities, with regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, noise, fumes, and airborne particles. Work frequently occurs outdoors in all weather conditions typical of a mountain environment and may involve risk of electrical shock and occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. Noise levels are usually loud. Work areas may include uneven terrain, snow, ice, and wet indoor floors. Personal protective equipment must be used as required.
