Job summary

White Pass is seeking a skilled Vehicle Maintenance Technician to perform PMI inspections, troubleshoot fleet vehicles, and repair a variety of heavy equipment. The role requires hands-on experience with hydraulics, electrical systems, diesel engines, and shop safety practices in a mountain environment.

Candidates should have 2–5 years in vehicle maintenance, a relevant certificate, and a Washington driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Valid Washington State Driver’s License and ability to drive fleet vehicles.

Position Type: Seasonal; Full-Time (30+ hrs/week)

Salary Range: $25.00 - $30.00 Hourly

POSITION SUMMARY

Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), troubleshooting, and failure analysis on all White Pass vehicles, snowcats, and heavy equipment. Repairs and maintains the fleet in accordance with established guidelines and standards, ensuring maximum safe vehicle availability. This position reports directly to the Vehicle Maintenance Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform PMI and complete necessary repairs.
• Troubleshoot, analyze, repair, design, modify, and complete failure analysis on fleet vehicles and equipment.
• Repair and maintain the White Pass vehicle and equipment fleet in accordance with area maintenance standards.
• Assist in training staff on safe equipment operation and protocols.
• Support Tech III staff on complex maintenance and repair projects.
• Complete work orders promptly, with accurate records of all work performed.
• Manage assigned shop areas and ensure the shop is maintained in a safe, clean condition.
• Attend weekly staff and safety meetings.
• Provide respectful, professional interactions with all employees and guests of White Pass.
• Support other departments and operations as needed.
• Follow all resort policies and procedures, including those related to safety, conduct, and appearance.
• Support other team members and departments when needed to help resort operations run smoothly.
• Adapt to changing weather, guest volume, and shift priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
• High school education or equivalent required.
• Valid Washington State Driver's License.
• Two to five years of experience in vehicle maintenance, plus a certificate of completion from an automotive/diesel technology program with a minimum of 1,000 clock hours.
• Working knowledge of hydraulics, electrical systems, electrical-over-hydraulics, gas and diesel engines, computerized engine control systems, drive trains, chassis, body repair, welding, fuel systems, air systems, and schematic drawings.
• Ability to consult manuals, trade publications, vendors, staff schools, and training programs to stay current on shop practices and maintenance technologies.
• Ability to operate all vehicles in the fleet to evaluate equipment performance and repairs.
• Capable of running the shop in the absence of a supervisor or foreman.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Strong communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
• Reliable, punctual, and committed to the full schedule, including weekends and holidays, during peak season.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and use hands to operate tools and equipment. The employee must be able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and occasionally more than 100 pounds. The employee must be able to operate hand and foot controls on vehicles. Specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. A functional capacity test may be required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is based primarily in vehicle and equipment maintenance facilities, with regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, noise, fumes, and airborne particles. Work frequently occurs outdoors in all weather conditions typical of a mountain environment and may involve risk of electrical shock and occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. Noise levels are usually loud. Work areas may include uneven terrain, snow, ice, and wet indoor floors. Personal protective equipment must be used as required.
