Job description

Every idea starts with a problem. Ours was simple: Boats are special — but they’re loud, pollutant, unreliable, and stuck in the past. Gas-powered boats dominate not because they’re great, but because no better option has existed. Until now.

Arc is here to change that. We’re building 100% electric boats from the ground up — quicker, quieter, easier to maintain, and better for the water they ride on. We’re not just swapping gas for batteries. We’re rethinking every detail on the boat — from propulsion and powertrain to software and ownership model — applying first-principles engineering from aerospace and EVs to deliver a better boating experience.

Electric boats haven’t taken over yet. The tech hasn’t been ready. The talent hasn’t been focused here. That’s our opportunity — and we’re moving fast.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who’s fired up by our mission and ready to build. You’ll thrive here if you adapt quickly, take ownership, and care about the details.

This is a full-time, on-site role at our Los Angeles headquarters. You’ll report to our Design Lead and work closely with a lean, high-trust team where everyone’s work matters.

Core responsibilities
  • Creating and presenting design proposals for various types of marine vessels and accompanying hardware
  • Translating 2D sketches and renderings into 3D digital models
  • Proving out ideas through prototyping and the creation of mockups
  • Working with suppliers and vendors
  • Conducting CMF research and creating design proposals based off of that
  • Conducting research to better understand the boating market and identify opportunities for Arc
  • Use product requirements and goals as guideposts in designing Arc boats
  • Monitoring competitive developments and industry trends to inform Arc’s design approach
  • Combining insights from research and data with product intuition to design delightful experiences for Arc’s customers
  • Collaborating with product managers, engineers, sales, manufacturing, and more to develop and ship awesome hardware and software

IMPORTANT: All candidates must submit a portfolio either as a PDF or as a URL. Applications without portfolios will not be considered.

  • At minimum a bachelor’s degree in a related field of design
  • At least four years of professional experience in boat or yacht design, vehicle design, product design, or industrial design having taken at least one production project from inception through to product launch.
  • Excellent visual communication skills in sketching and rendering
  • Digital modeling skills in some combination of Alias, Blender or Rhino. Need to be experienced enough to create good sketch models quickly. Does not need to be A-class surfacing level.
  • Good visualization skills in Blender, Keyshot, Vred, Twinmotion or similar
  • Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to look at problems through an engineering lens and collaborate with engineers to tackle hard challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills to connect with a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Deep user empathy and an ability to distill pain points and opportunities from customer conversations
  • Must be a hands-on designer who feels comfortable making mockups and physical models
  • Ability to travel for occasional boating events
  • Experience in or enthusiasm for boating and clean energy
  • Comfortable pushing an intense but sustainable pace

At Arc, we encourage diversity and consider all qualified applicants equally for employment, regardless of background, identity, or status. You’re always welcome to reach out even if you don’t meet many of these qualifications. Passion and aptitude make up for a lot.

Our values

We value these five things above all else:

  • Ownership over both your work and the company’s success
  • Empathy for colleagues and for customers
  • Humility in problem solving and collaboration
  • Pragmatism for navigating ambiguity quickly and sensibly
  • Inclusion of different backgrounds, opinions, cultures, etc.

Given that we work in a sometimes intense or stressful environment, it’s vital that our values align. We’d be happy to elaborate on any or all of these during the interview process.

What we offer
  • Talented teammates that challenge you to be better
  • Access and ability to provide input on a wide range of business activities
  • A salary of $130,000 - $190,000 per year
  • Semi-annual bonuses tied to impact
  • A meaningful equity stake
  • An opportunity to have an outsized impact on industry-defining vehicles
  • The ability to drive positive environmental change through your work
  • Nearly free health insurance (we cover 99%) and 401k access
  • Generous parental leave
  • Daily lunches at our office in LA, plenty of snacks, lots of swag, and more
  • Boat rides!

Hope to hear from you soon!
