Job summary

ACV Auctions is seeking an enthusiastic Inspector in Concord, NC to join our growing team. Inspectors are the face of ACV, using automotive knowledge to detect damage and mechanical issues, then explain findings clearly to clients.

They will partner with Territory Managers, conduct dealership inspections, prepare reports, and help the sales team with upsells, while traveling to dealerships and auto sites to document condition and list vehicles on ACV’s platform.

Qualifications

• 1 year of automobile field experience with customer service background.
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
• Ability to work outside in the elements for extended periods.
• Strong problem solving and resourcefulness.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating in a team.
• Excellent communication to understand customer needs.
• Valid driver’s license with an insured vehicle.
• Familiarity with basic software and web apps.
• Ability to lift 25 lbs+ and perform physical tasks.
• Ability to operate manual and automatic transmissions.
• Vision to identify small defects under vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Support to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
• Conduct inspections with a Territory Manager and team to detect damage and mechanical issues.
• Prepare and submit reports of vehicle condition and repair estimates.
• Assist sales with up-selling or cross-selling services.
• Engage with dealers to build relationships and ensure satisfaction.
• Travel to dealerships and homes to inspect and write condition reports.
• Document photos and upload them to the image server.
• List inspected vehicles for bidding and purchasing on ACV platform.
• Onboard independent dealerships as buyers on the platform.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

What you will do:

• Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
• Partnering with a Territory Manager and a team of Inspectors, conducts inspections of vehicles at dealerships, auctions, and off-lease, to detect damage, missing parts and mechanical problems.
• Prepare and submit a report of vehicle condition, repair/replacement cost estimates, and related documentation.
• Help sales team up-sell or cross-sell services and products
• Interface regularly with our dealers to develop and ensure client satisfaction and build strong relationships.
• Travel to & from dealerships and homes to inspect, and write condition reports, list vehicles to sell on the auction platform.
• Take multiple, overall, and damage photos match them to a vehicle, and download them to the image server utilizing the company issued smart phone.
• List inspected wholesale vehicles utilizing ACV Auctions platform for bidding and purchasing.
• Sign up independent dealerships as buyers to utilize ACV Auctions digital platform.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

What you will need:

• 1 year(s) Experience in the automobile field (body, paint and mechanical repair knowledge) with customer service background
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
• Ability to work outside in the elements for extended periods of time.
• Problem solving aptitude to meet challenges with resourcefulness and innovative approaches.
• Proven success to work independently with minimal supervision while working in a team environment.
• Excellent communicator with the ability to understand customer needs and expectations.
• Valid driver’s license and use of a validly registered and insured motor vehicle required.
• Knowledge of system capabilities, knowledge of needed/job-relevant software packages, and web-based applications.
• Ability to perform manual labor such as standing for extended periods, lifting up to or more than 25 lbs, bending, and squatting
• Ability to drive a manual & automatic transmission.
• Vision abilities required to properly identify small defects around and underneath vehicles.

Compensation

The hourly compensation range for this position is listed in the "Job Details" section at the bottom of this posting. This position is eligible for additional compensation pursuant to ACV's incentive compensation plan: the average monthly incentive earned by VCI's in this territory in 2025 was $797. Please note that final compensation will be determined based upon the applicant's relevant experience, skillset, location, business needs, market demands, and performance (for incentive pay), and other factors as permitted by law.
