Job summary

ACV Auctions is seeking an enthusiastic Inspector to join our growing team. Inspectors are the face of ACV, with deep knowledge of cars and the ability to clearly explain vehicle conditions to clients. This role emphasizes trust, transparency, and outstanding customer service.

You will inspect vehicles at dealerships and auctions, prepare detailed condition reports, and collaborate with the sales team to maximize value. Travel to dealerships is required; a valid driver’s license is essential.

Qualifications

• 1 year experience in auto body/paint/mechanical with customer service
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather
• Strong problem-solving abilities

Responsibilities

• Support customer experience efforts
• Conduct inspections of vehicles at dealerships, auctions, and off-lease
• Prepare and submit condition reports and repair cost estimates
• Assist sales with upsell/cross-sell opportunities
• Build relationships with dealers
• Travel to dealerships/home inspections for reports
• Take photos and upload them to company server
• List inspected vehicles for bidding on ACV platform
• Register dealerships as buyers on the platform
• Perform additional duties as assigned

ACV Auctions is looking for an enthusiastic Inspector who has a knack for cars and wants an opportunity to join a growing company. Our Inspectors are the face of our company. They know a ton about cars, and love to talk about them - explaining to our clients what they need to know in a way they can understand. What you will do:

• Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
• Partnering with a Territory Manager and a team of Inspectors, conducts inspections of vehicles at dealerships, auctions, and off-lease, to detect damage, missing parts and mechanical problems.
• Prepare and submit a report of vehicle condition, repair/replacement cost estimates, and related documentation.
• Help sales team up-sell or cross-sell services and products
• Interface regularly with our dealers to develop and ensure client satisfaction and build strong relationships.
• Travel to & from dealerships and homes to inspect, and write condition reports, list vehicles to sell on the auction platform.
• Take multiple, overall, and damage photos match them to a vehicle, and download them to the image server utilizing the company issued smart phone.
• List inspected wholesale vehicles utilizing ACV Auctions platform for bidding and purchasing.
• Sign up independent dealerships as buyers to utilize ACV Auctions digital platform.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

What you will need:

• 1 year(s) Experience in the automobile field (body, paint and mechanical repair knowledge) with customer service background
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
• Ability to work outside in the elements for extended periods of time.
• Problem solving aptitude to meet challenges with resourcefulness and innovative approaches.
• Proven success to work independently with minimal supervision while working in a team environment.
• Excellent communicator with the ability to understand customer needs and expectations.
• Valid driver’s license and use of a validly registered and insured motor vehicle required.
• Knowledge of system capabilities, knowledge of needed/job-relevant software packages, and web-based applications.
• Ability to perform manual labor such as standing for extended periods, lifting up to or more than 25 lbs, bending, and squatting
• Ability to drive a manual & automatic transmission.
• Vision abilities required to properly identify small defects around and underneath vehicles.

Compensation

The hourly compensation range for this position is listed in the "Job Details" section at the bottom of this posting. This position is eligible for additional compensation pursuant to ACV’s incentive compensation plan: the average monthly incentive earned by VCI's in this territory in 2025 was ($786). Please note that final compensation will be determined based upon the applicant's relevant experience, skillset, location, business needs, market demands, and performance (for incentive pay), and other factors as permitted by law.
