Job summary

Indiana University School of Medicine - South Bend is seeking a Research Technician to provide general laboratory support and assist in developmental genetics research on vector insects that transmit human diseases.

The role includes arthropod rearing, culturing, molecular genetics work (PCR, gel electrophoresis), tissue prep, and immunohistochemistry, along with ordering supplies and training staff. It is an in-person position located in South Bend, Indiana.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in science or health-related discipline is required.
• Some laboratory experience preferred.
• Education beyond minimum may substitute for work experience.

Responsibilities

• Conducts arthropod rearing.
• Performs yeast and bacteria culturing.
• Conducts molecular genetics techniques (gel electrophoresis, PCR).
• Responsible for tissue preparation and immunohistochemistry.
• Orders supplies (equipment, reagents, expendables).
• Cultures media and prepares solutions.
• Trains other staff members.
• Initiates, monitors, and reports routine to moderately complex research studies.
• Organizes data review and analysis.
• Oversees handling of laboratory specimens and transfer to central laboratories.
