Qualifications

Department IUSM-SOUTH BEND (IN-MEDS-IUINA) Department Information Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine - South Bend offers a well-established community medicine experience emphasizing small-group learning and 1-on-1 clinical training.

Job Summary

The Research Technician provides general laboratory support and technical assistance in research investigating the developmental genetics of vector insects that transmit human diseases.

Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Conducts arthropod rearing
  • Performs yeast and bacteria culturing
  • Conducts molecular genetics techniques (i.e. gel electrophoresis, polymerase chain reaction (PCR))
  • Responsible for tissue preparation and immunohistochemistry
  • Orders supplies (equipment, reagents, expendables)
  • Cultures media and prepares solutions
  • Trains other staff members
General Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the initiation, monitoring, completion, and reporting of routine to moderately complex research studies
  • Organizes and implements data review and analysis
  • Oversees the proper handling of laboratory specimens including processes, shipping, storage, and documentation and transfer to designated central laboratories
  • Conducts data quality assurance practices
  • Prepares research summaries and assists in progress report development
  • Maintains laboratory work areas and supply inventory
