Job description

Job Description Summary: The VDC Standards & Quality Specialist supports the technical excellence, consistency, and constructability of the department’s Revit-based deliverables for electrical construction. Reporting to the VDC Process Manager, this role assists in applying quality standards, monitoring model health, and optimizing department workflows. The Specialist conducts lifecycle QC checks throughout the project duration to ensure models are accurate, standardized, and coordinated long before they reach the jobsite or downstream consumers. This position blends technical auditing, process documentation, and designer support. The Specialist helps document and support the adoption of new software rollouts by translating defined workflows into clear, usable standards. The Specialist has the authority to stop deliverables when established quality benchmarks are not met, enhancing collaboration between teams internally and with external customers to ensure accurate, quality models are delivered.

Role and Responsibilities
Quality Control & Technical Auditing (Holistic Lifecycle QC)
  • Support development and refinement of the department’s QC program, including checklists, redlining workflows, and audit practices.
  • Execute Whole Model QC throughout the project lifecycle to maintain model health and data integrity.
  • Enforce established quality standards for construction team deliverables; hold authority to reject or stop submittals until requirements are met.
  • Audit models for common technical failures including missing annotations, formatting inconsistencies, material schedule errors, and improper parameter usage.
  • Assist in constructability reviews to ensure modeled systems align with internal standards.
  • Identify recurring quality issues and support root‑cause analysis efforts to inform standards updates and training.
Standards, SOPs & Workflow Development
  • Maintain and update Department Standards, VDC SOPs, and project‑specific GO‑BY materials.
  • Capture feedback from designers and project teams to support continuous improvement of standards and documentation.
  • Support the documentation and rollout of new workflows and software initiatives, ensuring clear guidance is available to end users.
  • Collaborate with the VDC Process Manager to test and implement updates to templates, standards, and file organization.
Model Coordination & Integration
  • Support implementation of internal coordination workflows that promote early and consistent model coordination by designers.
  • Participate in coordination routines, including issue tracking and resolution follow‑up.
  • Assist in maintaining coordination expectations and documentation across projects.
  • Coordinate with the Revit content creation process to align QC findings with automation opportunities and content standards.
Data Reporting & Enablement
  • Track quality metrics and production trends (e.g., common defect types, rework drivers) to support department reporting and improvement efforts.
  • Provide day‑to‑day support to designers to reinforce standards and improve modeling practices.
  • Assist in identifying opportunities for process improvement and workflow optimization.

  • Proven ability to write and maintain clear documentation (SOPs, checklists, standards, job aids).
  • Experience with coordination and issue management tools/workflows (e.g., Navisworks, Revizto, BIM 360/ACC).
  • Must be based in or able to commute to Eagan, MN (in‑person role, hybrid schedule available).
