Moore's Electrical and Mechanical, an ESOP company serving Virginia and North Carolina since 1985, seeks a VDC Spooler to turn coordinated piping and plumbing models into clear fabrication packages at the Altavista Fabrication Hub. You will connect model, shop, and field, supporting stands, racks, skids, and multi-trade assemblies.

Ideal candidates are mechanically minded, detail-oriented, and eager to see work built.

Qualifications

• Ability to read construction drawings and understand piping/plumbing systems.
• Strong mechanical and spatial aptitude with attention to detail.
• Comfortable with computers and learning VDC/BIM software.
• Good communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Piping, plumbing, welding, fabrication, or field construction experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Create piping and plumbing spool drawings from coordinated VDC models.
• Determine practical spool breaks based on fabrication, shipping, and field installation.
• Produce BOMs, cut lists, labels, and other shop information.
• Review work for accuracy and constructability before fabrication.
• Support modeling and detailing of stands, racks, skids, and other fabrication assemblies.
• Work directly with VDC, Prefabrication, shop, and field partners to resolve issues and improve our processes.

The Role:

The VDC Spooler turns coordinated piping and plumbing models into clear, accurate, and buildable fabrication packages.

Based at our Altavista VDC & Fabrication Hub, this position works directly alongside our fabrication operations-connecting the model, shop, and field. As skills develop, the role will also support fabrication modeling for stands, racks, skids, and other multi-trade assemblies.

We're looking for someone who is mechanically minded, detail-oriented, and interested in how things are actually built-not just how they look on a screen.

A traditional VDC background isn't required. Strong piping, plumbing, fabrication, or field experience combined with computer aptitude can be a great fit for this role.

Working from our Altavista Fabrication Hub gives you the opportunity to see your work built, receive direct feedback from the shop and field, and help improve how work moves from model to fabrication to installation.

What You'll Do:
