VCUarts - Music Department is seeking trained accompanists to provide collaborative piano support for Opera Theatre, rehearsals, and performances. The accompanist will work with a diverse student population in a collaborative, learning-centered environment at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Preferred candidates hold a Bachelor’s degree in collaborative piano or related experience, with demonstrated experience accompanying applied lessons and in an academic setting.

Theaccompanist's responsibilities may include assisting withmasterclasses, accompanying the voice area through applied lessons,auditions, and juries, and accompanying a choir or the Opera.

Accompanists are expected to be thoughtful and proactive members ofthe Music community and have a desire to work with a diversestudent population in a collaborative, inclusive andlearning-centered collective.

Primary Responsibilities

• Provide collaborative piano support in Opera Theatre, includingall rehearsals and performances.

Required Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environmentof respect, professionalism and civility with a population offaculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences,or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in collaborative piano or piano performance, orcommensurate experience in accompanying.
• Experience accompanying applied lessons from beginner to advancedlevels
• Experience accompanying in an academic setting
