Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts (VCUarts) Department of Music seeks trained accompanists to join its collaborative piano program. The accompanist will support Opera Theatre rehearsals and performances, and assist with masterclasses, voice lessons, auditions, and juries, while contributing to a welcoming, inclusive learning environment.

Preference is given to candidates with experience in academic settings.

• Experience fostering respect, professionalism and civility with a diverse university population.
• Bachelor’s degree in collaborative piano or piano performance, or commensurate experience.
• Experience accompanying applied lessons from beginner to advanced levels.
• Experience accompanying in an academic setting.

Accompanist

Position Details Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts (VCUarts) Department of Music is looking to hire trained accompanists. The accompanist's responsibilities may include assisting with masterclasses, accompanying the voice area through applied lessons, auditions, and juries, and accompanying a choir or the Opera.

Accompanists are expected to be thoughtful and proactive members of the Music community and have a desire to work with a diverse student population in a collaborative, inclusive and learning-centered collective.

Primary Responsibilities

• Provide collaborative piano support in Opera Theatre, including all rehearsals and performances.

Required Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
