Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts (VCUarts) is seeking applicants to serve as Musicians (piano and percussion accompaniment) for the Department of Theatre and Dance in Richmond, VA. This pool may provide temporary staffing when opportunities arise.

Responsibilities include selecting appropriate musical accompaniments for dance classes and performing during modern and ballet sessions. Applicants should have a degree in music and experience with dance music, and be able to work

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Music or equivalent training, education and experience.
1 year of experience playing for dance classes at collegiate, professional, or pre-professional level.
Ability to sight-read music and improvise in various styles.
Prepare multiple genres of music suitable for ballet and/or modern dance classes.
Respectful, professional work environment with diverse faculty, staff and students.

Responsibilities

Work with Dance and Choreography Instructors to select appropriate musical accompaniment.
Accompany modern dance and ballet classes with suitable musical and stylistic choices.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
