Job summary

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' Veterans Canteen Service at the Sioux Falls VA Medical Center is hiring full-time and part-time Food Service Workers to deliver fast-paced, customer-focused service in our cafes and retail markets.

Responsibilities include preparing beverages and a variety of food items, maintaining sanitation, stocking and following health standards, and assisting with daily operations to serve America's Heroes.

Qualifications

• Reading instructions and performing basic math for food preparation.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Must be able to lift or move objects up to 40 pounds unassisted.
• One year of experience in the food service industry is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares a variety of beverages including coffee, latte, cappuccino, and smoothies.
• Prepares and assembles breakfast sandwiches, lunch sandwiches, wraps, pancakes, burritos, and more.
• Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of workplace, equipment, and utensils per health standards.
• Stores food properly to maintain freshness and prevent spoilage.
• Prepares foods according to customer orders or supervisor instructions.

The Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) located at the Sioux Falls - SD - VA Medical Center is seeking full time/part time Food Service Workers who enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and are committed to serving America's Heroes.

Qualifications

A current - valid REAL ID is required to work at Veterans Canteen Service. Ability to read instructions and perform basic math for food preparation. Requires constant standing - walking - and frequent bending. Must be able to lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted. Minimum of one (1) year of experience in the food service industry is preferred but not necessary. Excellent customer service skills

Duties

• Major Duties and Responsibilities: Prepares a variety of beverages - including but not limited to coffee - latte - cappuccino - and smoothies
• Prepares and assembles an assortment of food items - including but not limited to breakfast sandwiches - lunch sandwiches - wraps - pancakes - burritos - and many more
• Maintains cleanliness & sanitation of workplace - equipment - utensils in compliance with health & safety standards
• Properly stores food to maintain freshness and prevent spoilage
• Prepares a variety of foods according to customers' orders or supervisors' instructions - following approved procedures
• Will be exposed to varying temperatures - including hot and cold
• Performs other duties as assigned.
