Job Description
Under the direction of a radiologist, the Vascular Technologist utilizes diagnostic ultrasound equipment to perform general and vascular examinations, producing ultrasound images of the body for diagnostic purposes and interventional procedures. The technologist exercises good judgment in determining necessary measurements for the area being examined, performs all computer processing for ultrasound examinations, and delivers patient care and education before, during, and after procedures. May act as a mentor for less experienced vascular technologists. Interacts professionally with co-workers, visitors, and staff, consistent with Jefferson's values.
The role includes performing vascular ultrasound procedures such as Carotid Duplex Ultrasounds, Pulse Volume Recordings, Peripheral Vascular Arterial and Venous studies, and ultrasonic diagnostic echocardiograms following accepted protocols. The technologist instructs patients to ensure cooperation and optimal test results, follows safety standards, utilizes software applications including PACS and echocardiographic reporting systems, and maintains ultrasound and lab equipment. Additional duties include quality assurance, maintaining continuing education for licenses, and other responsibilities as assigned.
