Job summary

Charleston Area Medical Center's Heart & Vascular Center is seeking a Vascular Tech Specialist to perform peripheral vascular noninvasive testing including cerebral, venous and arterial systems, to aid physicians in diagnosis and treatment. This role requires strong patient communication and teamwork.

You will assess inpatients, coordinate transfers, explain procedures, provide education to staff and students, and help maintain equipment, policies, and testing protocols.

Qualifications

• Registered Vascular Spec/Tech credentials required.
• Basic Life Support certification required within 30 days of hire.
• Experience with peripheral vascular testing is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform peripheral vascular testing including cerebral, venous and arterial systems.
• Assess the condition of inpatients and coordinate their transfer to and from testing procedures.
• Explain testing procedures to each patient and obtain a specific history.
• Provide inservices and assist education of staff and students; maintain staff competency.
• Collaborate with Medical Director in research for publication and policy development.
• Evaluate equipment needs and make recommendations for purchases.
• Perform new hire training and competency check-off; manage training progression.
• Assist accreditation and quality improvement processes.

Job Summary

Responsibilities

• Perform peripheral vascular testing inclusive of cerebral, venous and arterial systems.
• Assess the condition of inpatients and coordinate their transfer to and from testing procedures.
• Explain testing procedures to each patient and obtain a specific history.
• Perform inservices and act as an educational resource to staff personnel, medical education students and other health care professionals. Assist with maintaining technical competence of staff by assessing educational needs and recommending educational programs.
• Participate in collaboration with Medical Director in research for publication.
• Assist in development of policies, procedures and testing protocols.
• Evaluate the equipment needs of the department and make recommendations for purchases.
• Perform new hire training and competency checklist.
• Must be able to decide what skills need introduced to help the new hire meet proficiencies.
• Must be able to decide when new hire can be checked off on one skill and move on to other tasks or areas of the lab.
• Must be able to balance multiple training tasks while still completing daily assigned duties.
• Must be able to manage existing patient load and other job requirements while performing new hire training duties.
• Must be able to perform exams on patients with new hire in a timely manner.
• Must be able to communicate professionally and in a constructive manner with new hire.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with other specialists about progress of new hire and skills that need to be improved.
• Assist Technical Director with Tech I and Vascular Tech Assistants competency check-off.
• Assist Technical Director with the Quarterly Q/I reporting and complete in the absence of the Technical Director.
• Assist Director with performance reviews and performance planners.
• Assists Technical Director with accreditation process/quality improvement.
