Job summary

WVU Medicine in Morgantown seeks an experienced Vascular Sonographer to perform advanced non-invasive imaging in the Vascular Laboratory. You will manage procedure billing, patient scheduling, and timely reporting while upholding vascular protocols and high-quality care.

The role requires RVT or RVS certification within 2 years of hire, ARDMS/CCI credentials, and BLS within 30 days. Collaborative work with the care team is essential in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Imaging Program.
  • RVT through ARDMS or RVS through CCI within 2 years of hire.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Performs advanced non-invasive imaging procedures for Vascular Laboratories.
  • Handles billing of procedures and prioritizes patient scheduling.
  • Coordinates and prioritizes scheduling to ensure timely procedures.
  • Gathers procedure details and answers patient questions with courtesy.
  • Performs non-invasive imaging within guidelines and timeframes.
  • Notifies medical staff of significant abnormal findings.
  • Documents procedures in the patient chart to inform physicians.
  • Calculates vascular measurements to aid interpretation.
  • Maintains cleanliness of equipment and rooms in the vascular lab.
  • Completes accurate documentation in EPIC for billing.
  • Participates in education and in-service opportunities.
  • Provides timely preliminary reports and reviews with physicians.
  • Follows vascular protocols and policies.
  • Participates in training of vascular ultrasound techniques.

Job description

Performs advanced Vascular Ultrasound procedures in order to facilitate appropriate diagnosis and treatment of patients.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

  1. Graduate of an accredited Medical Imaging Program.

  2. Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVT) through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) OR Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) within 2 years of hire.

  3. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

  1. Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVT) through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) OR Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Performs advanced non-invasive imaging procedures for Vascular Laboratories.

  2. Performs proper billing of procedures and prioritize patient scheduling.

  3. Coordinates and prioritizes patient scheduling in order to insure procedure completion in a timely fashion.

  4. Prior to testing, obtains information for specific procedures to be performed, answer pertinent questions to patients concerning procedures and are courteous to patients and their families 100% of the time.

  5. Performs all non-invasive imaging procedures within established guidelines and timeframes.

  6. Notifies appropriate medical staff if there are significant abnormal findings.

  7. Documents procedure performed within patient chart to inform the physician that the test has been completed.

  8. Calculates and measures vascular structures from procedure data in order to aid the physician in interpreting results and achieving a diagnosis.

  9. Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of the equipment, procedure rooms and work areas of the Vascular Laboratories.

  10. Completes accurate documentation through EPIC to ensure proper billing.

  11. Participates in education and in-service opportunities in order to maintain and enhance knowledge.

  12. Provides preliminary report on study performed in a timely manner. Reviews preliminary report with physician.

  13. Follows and implement Vascular protocols and policies.

  14. Participates in the training of vascular ultrasound techniques and procedures.

To apply for the next level, the Vascular Sonographer must meet the requirements of their current level. They must also meet the required years of experience, degree, and certification to apply for the next level.

Level 1
  • No experience required.

  • All Vascular Sonographers with less than 12 months of experienceenter at Level one.

Level 2
  • Meets requirements for previous level.

  • Two years of sonographer experience.

  • Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1, plus additional skill sets.

Level 3
  • Meets requirements for previous levels.

  • One continuing education pathway.

  • Four years of sonographer experience.

  • Compliant in 4 leadership/supervisory skills.

  • Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1 and 2, plus 3 additional skill sets.

Level 4
  • Meets requirements for previous levels.

  • One continuing education pathway.

  • Five years of sonographer experience.

  • Compliant in 5 leadership/supervisory skills.

  • Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1, 2, and 3 plus 4 additional skill sets.
