Minimum Qualifications
Graduate of a Medical Imaging Program.
Must possess a current or temporary radiography license as required by the state board where services will be provided.
License Requirements
- MD: Radiographer license through the Maryland Board of Physicians.
- OH: Radiographer license through the Ohio Board of Radiology.
- PA: No state license required.
- WV: Radiography License or temporary license through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board.
National Certification
- MD: Registered Radiography Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) upon hire.
- OH: Registered Radiography Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) upon hire.
- PA: Registered Radiography Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) within six months of graduation from Medical Imaging program.
- WV: Registered Radiography Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) prior to expiration of WV temporary license.
Certifications
- Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
- State criminal background check and federal background check as required for regulated areas.
Preferred Qualifications
- Obtain Dysthymia course certification through WVU Medicine within one year of hire.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification.
Experience
One (1) year of experience as a CV interventional radiologic technologist.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Obtain and prepare medications under direct physician order for procedure.
- Observe sterile technique while assembling supplies necessary for physician and other lab personnel.
- Continuously monitor patient’s ECG and blood pressure, documenting and advising the physician of all activity in an accurate and timely manner.
- Answer the telephone in the cardiac catheterization or vascular laboratory in a courteous manner, identifying unit and self at all times.
- Coordinate laboratory procedural schedule/load with patient demand and physician schedules.
- Act as laboratory’s code team by initiating resuscitative measures and cardiac defibrillation under direct supervision of the physician in charge.
- Document all procedures performed and utilize inventory control system; correctly bill procedures using the EMR; assist with inventory counts.
- Escort patient safely to the appropriate departments.
- Apply electrocautery and ablation pads under physician supervision.
- Instruct radiography students in the clinical setting regarding patient positioning, technique selection, equipment manipulation, and accessory device use to obtain radiographic images.
- Monitor and interpret hemodynamic monitoring.
- Prepare entry site for procedure using sterile technique.
- Participate in inventory management of the department.
- Check and prepare patient prior to procedure.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull a minimum of 40 pounds.
Working Environment
The work environment includes occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, body fluids, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.

To apply for the next level, the technologist must meet requirements of their current level, required years of experience, degree, and certification.
Level 1
- No experience required.
- All CV Interventional Radiologic Technologists with less than 12 months of experience enter at Level One.
Level 2
- Meets requirements for previous level.
- One year of experience.
- Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1.
- Complete Workday course.
Level 3
- Meets requirements for previous levels.
- One continuing education pathway.
- Three years of experience.
- Compliance in 3 leadership/supervisory skills.
- Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1 and 2.
Level 4
- Meets requirements for previous levels.
- One continuing education pathway.
- Five years of experience.
- Compliance in 5 leadership/supervisory skills.
- Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1, 2 and 3.
