Additional Information About the Role

Our nursing staff provides pre- and post-operative care for patients undergoing various interventions for peripheral vascular disease. Surgical services include endoluminal and open repair of thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysms, thoracic outlet decompression, carotid artery angioplasty and stenting, carotid endarterectomies, dialysis access (fistulas and grafts), catheter-directed thrombolysis, and various bypasses and stents for aorto-iliac, lower extremity, and upper extremity occlusive diseases.

Overview

Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is Missouri's largest hospital and ranked among the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. Recognized for nursing excellence, Barnes-Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to earn Magnet Certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Division 7500/75PCU is a fast-paced Cardiovascular Surgery unit with 25 beds, including step-down and PCU beds. We care for complex cardiovascular surgery patients such as those with aneurysms, thoracic outlet syndrome, carotid artery disease, peripheral vascular disease, arrhythmia surgery, and valve repairs. The Staff Nurse (RN) plays a vital role in patient care, using critical thinking and clinical expertise to assess patient status. The role requires certification in BLS, ACLS, ACUTE CARE, arterial line monitoring, and pacer wires.

  • Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs, respecting patient preferences, values, and cultural considerations.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position; the ability to work alertly and safely is essential.

  • Nursing Diploma or Associate's Degree in Nursing
