Job summary

Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD is seeking a Vascular First Assist Advanced Practice Provider (APP) who will function as both a surgical first assistant and an independent clinician in the outpatient vascular clinic. This dual role demands strong clinical judgment, technical OR skills, and the ability to manage vascular patients across perioperative care.

The APP will act as first assistant in open and endovascular vascular procedures, perform focused vascular exams, order and interpret

Qualifications

• Graduate of PA or NP program with active licensure and board certification.
• Current DEA license for prescribing.
• BLS and ACLS required or obtained during onboarding.
• 1–2 years APP experience in inpatient/procedural settings; vascular surgery preferred.

Responsibilities

• Act as first assistant in vascular surgeries including open and endovascular cases.
• Evaluate vascular patients in outpatient clinics and develop treatment plans.
• Order, interpret and act on diagnostic tests in collaboration with supervising physicians.
• Coordinate preoperative evaluations and postoperative follow-up visits.
• Collaborate with vascular surgeons, sonographers and nursing staff.
